Desde su temprana infancia y toda su juventud debió enfrentarse a una sociedad sin preparación para aceptar las diferencias, vive momentos de discriminación, desolación, incomprensión, por el hecho de haber nacido ciego. En 1992 regresan a Valdivia y desde 1993 comienza a tocar su acordeón en la calle Ramón Picarte y Camilo Henríquez hasta el inicio de la pandemia en 2020. En Valdivia es nombrado tesoro viviente por la Universidad Austral de Chile. El hombre del acordeón se trasformó en un ícono de Valdivia. La ciudad espera su reaparición. En fecha desconocida para él, su abuelo, dos hermanos y un primo salieron de Palestina, invadida por los turcos. Uno de esos hermanos se quedó en Italia y cuentan que llegó a ser pastelero del rey. Otro, se quedó en Honduras donde inició negocios y posteriormente se amplió a Guatemala. Su abuelo y el primo llegaron a Chile (Tus ojos tienen la añoranza/de los hermanos que dejaste/dispersos en el camino). este se estableció en el Sur de Chile y desarrolló un negocio de cabotaje entre Valdivia y comunidades costeras como Toltén, donde, finalmente en 1933, encontró la muerte (Un día, se vino para Chile/ cansado del desierto,/ a la selva húmeda y virgen del Toltén). En sus anteriores poemarios, Animal doméstico (2017) y Algo tan oscuro que no tiene nombre (2018) ha construido, con gran madurez y frescura, un universo verbal dentro del cual la memoria y la introspección cumplen un rol clave en pos de la indagación y testimonio de la extrañeza de lo cotidiano y los lazos familiares, sus temas más recurrentes; sin embargo, y he aquí lo interesante, no a través de una poesía de tipo confesional que confíe en la transparencia del lenguaje, sino desde la utilización de símbolos y alegorías que amplían y densifican los estratos de lo dicho. En Todos mis quchillos, su libro más experimental a la fecha, Alzati lleva esta estrategia discursiva hasta el límite: por medio del seguimiento obsesivo de las variaciones de un cuadro constituido básicamente por tres elementos (una manzana, una mesa y un cuchillo que, amenazante, sobrevuela la escena) conforma un poema largo dividido en secciones de hipnótico efecto y múltiples interpretaciones no excluyentes (la pérdida de la inocencia, la violencia contra la mujer, etc.), que hace recordar la espesura de lo real de la que hablara Joí£o Cabral de Melo Neto, cuyo libro El perro sin plumas es una clara influencia. Asimismo, la presente edición incluye una segunda parte titulada Cursivas compuesta por otros poemas inéditos, que con mayor variedad temática, dan cuenta del talento que tiene Alzati sin recurrir a lo conceptual.
